A.D.D. Movie Reviews: The King’s Speech

The King’s Speech
This was really really good. What is it about British Monarchy movies that make them always so interesting to us?…! Other than because Moncarchies are weird and archaic seeming…
Well, this was incredibly charming and Colin Firth is amazing again. Helena Bonham Carter WASN’T a scary goth lady for once, and Geoffrey Rush was also excellent.
The loss of a half star is for the headphones bit, which never came up again. If you see it you’ll know what I mean. It’s one of those things where they’ve solved the movie’s dilemma too soon, so they ignore it. It usually doesn’t take any enough to ruin it, but I come away from the movie wondering why they kept it.

Jackass 3D
1.5/5 stars

Though my ticket was bought for me (Thanks, Dave!), I’m not really sure how I feel about paying $17 for a movie of “funny videos on the internet” caliber. Ehh…. The 3D is kind of pointless in this movie.
It had a few moments for me, and it has inspired me to draw the following conclusion: Bees are funny. Bull to the groin over and over is not funny.
The opening and ending were pretty hilarious.
I realize I fall into the category of “well why did you go see this movie then?”. I feel like my time could have been spent better in other movies.

A.D.D. Movie Reviews: Easy A

Stanley Tucci played a large role in this movie being really funny. In fact, all the adults were hilarious.
I only have a couple minor gripes with this movie, but they’re not even worth mentioning. Not quite this year’s “Mean Girls,” but pretty close.

I started writing mini movie reviews on flixster, but why not put them here! They’ll get more current once I post some back logs. And see some current movies…

Dinner for Schmucks
3/5 stars
Some of the funniest material to grace the big screen that I have EVER seen, surrounded by the most sickeningly bland and cliché film of all time.
I want to cut out the parts with Steve Carell, Zach Galifianakis, and Jemaine Clement, put them together into their own disjointedly hilarious movie, and play it on loop.
While the movie is literally so SO cliché that I thought the actors were aware of just how predictable and uninspired their lines were that they might look at the camera and wink… The comedy parts (which I can only assume were mostly ad-libbed) are so good I recommend people see this movie anyway.

For the September screening of Channel101 NY at the NYTVF, sponsored by Heinz Ketchup, we made an Orson Wellesian fake commercial.
And it wouldn’t be complete without…
Avid Trips – Sneaky Settings
Posted by Kim in Avid Trips, Misc, Post on September 22nd, 2010
I’ve been working with the new Avid Media Composer 5 more lately and am slowly being introduced to certain obnoxious default settings as the situations arise.
The most annoying I have found so far is that when digitizing in MC5, the audio tracks are defaulted all centered, instead of alternating left and right. Which essentially makes your load mono. It’s not an unfixable problem, but still it’s annoying to have to then go back into the mixer and adjust the channels for each track on EVERY clip. (Unless, of course you, want them all the be centered. Then you’re in luck!)
Best just to open up the audio settings and change it on your user settings at the start.
As I notice them, I’ll post more about the default settings of Media Composer 5 that you may not realize are screwing with you!

18 years, 18 years, And on her 18th birthday she found out she wasn’t hers!
They sure liked to talk about how Rapunzel was “of age” to hook up with the thief guy.
I guess I don’t know the story of Rapunzel at all, what with the magic hair… I thought she was forced to spin her hair into gold yarn up in the tower or something… or was that Rapunzelstiltskin…
Anyway, Zachary Levi was the only one carrying this movie and he wasn’t in it enough for it to be terribly good. It was pretty forgettable.
